In this handbook you will find information on:

• Attendance policy • Studio Holidays/Closings

• Dance Attire • Competition Informtions

• Solo’s, Duo’s, Trio’s and Small Groups -rehersals, make-up and etiquette

• Social Media • Workshops

• Ballet Class Requirements • Costumes

Dancers are required to attend their weekly group class and a ballet class that is for their age group. The only time a dancer is allowed to attend a different age ballet class is to make up a missed class due to a school event or a church event. All other ballet classes that are missed due to other reasons, will not be allowed to be made up. Example: child has their brothers soccer game, that is not an excused absence and can’t be made up. Child has a school orchestra concert (not a siblings), that is excused and that can be made up. A dancer can make up a class by attending another class time or a studio make up day. Call studio for dates.

Dancers are only allowed to have 2 UNEXCUSED ballet classes. These classes are the base for all styles of dance and are a required class to be a part of a competition group at Dance Revue.

Dancers are only allowed to have 2 UNEXCUSED absences from their weekly group class as well. We understand that kids get piled high with homework, but that is not an excused absence. We are only requiring up to 4 hours of their time a week. Excused absences are church functions, school functions of their own (a siblings event does not count) and of course a family emergency.

If a dancer misses more than the 2 excused absences, a meeting with the dancer and parent(s) will be required to discuss the attendance and that dancer may be pulled from competing.

Dancers are required to wear black leotards, pink tights, ballet / lyrical / pointe shoes for the ballet classes. Hair must be pulled back in a bun. Boys are to wear athletic style shorts and fitted tank tops. Boys are allowed to wear lyrical or jazz shoes. Dancers are required to wear booty shorts , yoga pants or capri’s and DANCE tanks. These can be in any color. No T-shirts, sweats, or baggy tank tops are permitted. Proper dance shoes MUST always be worn in class. If a dancer forgets their shoes, attempts will be made to borrow some from a fellow dancer or the studio.

Hair is to be pulled back in a pony or bun!

Any dancer may sign up to do Solo’s, Duo’s & trio’s should be discussed with staff. Small groups will be asked by staff. ALL of these extra dances will have the same attendance guidelines as above. Each solo, duo or trio will also receive separate guidelines from the specific instructor. Solo’s. duo’s and trio’s are paid directly to the teacher and the studio for any studio time. All small groups will be paid directly to the studio.

Costumes will be selected by staff and dancer and are an additional fee.

Solo’s and duo’s • $375 for the first 5 hours, then $30 per half hour after that.

Trio’s • $400 for the first 5 hours, then $15 per dancer per half hour after that.

DANCE ATTIRE

SOLO’S, DUO’S, TRIO’S & SMALL GROUPS

Under NO circumstances should anything about another dancer or parent from our studio be posted on ANY kind of social media. Any pictures of dancers, other than your own, should receive permission from that parent to post on social media. Any negative comments regarding competitions, for example: other studio placements, scores, judging, placements are not allowed to be posted. Make sure to ‘LIKE” Dance Revue’s face book page as we post great things on it. If negative information is brought to my attention, there will be a required meeting with the dancer and parent(s). Appropriate actions will be taken. All forms of social media are monitored and followed by all of the staff at Dance Revue so if anything inappropriate is found, a conversation with the dancer and parent will be held.

All competition dancers are required to have a teal and black Dance Revue Competition Team warm-up jacket. Group sweatshirt may also be ordered however, these are not mandatory. All competitive dancers will be required to pay competition entry fee’s for EACH dance at EACH competition. List of competitions, dates and fee’s will be available at the start of the season. These will be posted on our website, but you will need to have a code to gain access to anything with pricing. That code will be available the start of the season and will change each year.

Breaks:

November 23rd to 27th

December 23rd to January 1st

Spring break class times will be determined at a later date and depended on attendance.

If a class has to be cancelled due to weather, you will receive an email to the email address that is on FILE on the registration form. It will also be posted on our face book page and our website. Generally speaking, if school district #11 cancels, we cancel. There is always an exception to that rule so please make sure you are checking your emails on those days. Cancelled classes will be made up.

All competition dancers will be required to attend a dress rehearsal before the first competition of the season. This rehearsal will require all dancers to have ALL costumes and have competition hair and make-up done as well.

The date for this will be listed on the competition schedule. One parent is also required to attend this. This will be held at the studio. At this rehearsal, we will go over make- up application, costume issues and hair styles.

THIS IS MANDATORY!

COMPETITION REQUIREMENTS / FEE’S:

STUDIO HOLIDAYS / NO CLASSES IN SESSION

COMPETITION DRESS REHEARSALS

All competitive dancers will receive make-up for competitions. This will consist of eye shadow, lip stick, blush

AND EYELASHES! The cost for these will be part of your costume costs. We will be using Mary Kay again this year

and the colors typically are not the same from previous years as they often change their color line up. All dancers

will receive enough eyelashes to last them the whole competition season, this guarantees that we all have the

same style and length!

Dance Revue delivers costumes ready to wear with the extras included. Tights, make-up, jewelry, and accessories are

all included in the costume fee’s. Costumes payments are made in 3 deposits: October, December and February.

The first 2 deposits are $150 each and a final bill will be emailed with the final balance due for February.

All costumes will be ordered in November and accounts must be CURRENT or the dancers costumes will not be

ordered at that time. Once the costumes are ordered and verified, we can not cancel the order and fee’s are NOT refundable.

!

All competitive dancers are required to attend either out of studio workshops or in-studio workshops. A list of these

will be available at the parent meeting and posted on our website and the bulletin board.

YOU MUST PRE REGISTER FOR THESE!

The requirement is as follows:

1 out of studio workshop—that is one day long AND 3 in-studio workshops

OR

1 MULTI DAY workshop and 2 in-studio workshops

The only exception to this is the group PEARLS, they only need to attend 2 in-studio workshops!

The fee’s for the in studio workshops is $40 to $50 per workshop depending on the guest teacher.

You will need to sign up for these classed ahead of time. You can do that by emailing the studio,

calling the studio or signing up on the bulletin board!

COMPETITION MAKE UP

COSTUMES AND FEES

WORKSHOPS!

At all competitions, we are representing ourselves, our group and our studio. If there is EVER a question or concern

while attending an event, please see Dawn to discuss. If further action needs to be taken, then

Dawn will address it with the event coordinator. We want the dancers to be able to enjoy their time at these events, cheer

on friends from other studios and learn from other artists. We may not always agree on a placement, but the decision of

the judges is final. Obviously if there is scoring that is way off base, I will address it soon as I see fit. I am very

sociable and friendly to other studio owners and we ALL talk about our experiences so please let me handle it.

ALL DANCERS ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND THE AWARDS CEREMONY FOR THEIR GROUPS!

There are times that another event might conflict with the schedule, if that is the case, please talk to Dawn about this

BEFORE the event. Just because the awards are scheduled hours after the last performance, does not mean that the dancer

should not be on stage with their group to accept their award. The only time that you will be allowed to miss is if the awards

ceremony were to be schedule for a late hour and you need to be up the next day for school. In those situations, a

staff member will stay for the awards. Example of this: it is a Sunday night and awards are scheduled for 10pm or later,

or if you are scheduled to compete again the next morning before 9am. All solo’s, duo’s and trio’s are

EXPECTED to be on stage for their awards. All competition dancers are required to have the teal and black warm up jackets

and custom leggings on when they are on stage for awards! ALL competitive dancers are required and expected to be at

each competition and READY by a certain time. This is generally 1 to 1 1/2 hours before. If a dancer shows up late and not ready

and the group has already warmed up and rehearsed, that late dancer most likely will not compete the first dance. If for some

reason, you happen to be running late due to traffic, over sleeping, getting lost, etc, you need to contact Dawn

and / or Terri right away so we can prepare on our end. Our cell phone numbers are always given out with the competition schedule.

PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE STUDIO, LEAVE A MESSAGE ON FACE BOOK OR OUR WEBSITE.

When we attend a competition, it is ALL about the dancers and it is our job as adults to not create any more stress

for them on those days! Parents, it is your responsibility to make sure your child is well rested the night before and

that YOU also are on top of it. Some of these mornings are early and some of the days are long. Be responsible,

your child and their group depends on it!

BEING ON TIME MEANS BEING EARLY
